Six

After stopping at a few more camps on the way home to find some of Brad's many friends, they rolled into camp.

"I'm beat," Adam said. He wasn't just physically exhausted, but he was more emotionally exhausted than he'd ever been.

"Me too," Lizzie said, climbing off of her bike and flashing her beaver to the whole camp. "I feel like I've been going non-stop for days."

"Get some rest," Brad said. "We're leaving for Valhalla at sundown."

Valhalla, as Crow had explained at their first meeting, was the party of the weekend. Every camp in the festival joined together for one massive celebration out in the empty area of the festival grounds. It kicked off with a parade, starting with the first camp, and each additional camp falling in behind with their crew of bikes and other mutant vehicles. It ended at the end of the main road, where a vast empty space spread out into the desert beyond. There would be live music, bonfires, food, and enough booze to drown an army.

The sun was low in the sky and the temperature had dropped. "Might be a cold one tonight," Adam said as he unzipped the tent.

Lizzie followed him in. "I hope not. The costume I planned doesn't exactly cover much."

"Why am I not surprised?"

Lizzie giggled and then plopped down on the air mattress. "Adam, I swear I didn't know that was going to happen with that piercer guy."

Adam tensed up. "Can we not talk about it right now?"

"Um, okay. But what was he saying about you trying to fuck some girl?"

Oh god. "I wasn't trying to fuck some girl. After you, you know, went with the Russians into the orgy tent, Crow had sent me off to have my own adventure, if you will. I was in a daze. You were gone, I was lost. I just wanted to go home and I couldn't so the next best thing was to get blindingly drunk so that I could wake up and hopefully everything would be worked out. Anyway, at the first bar I stopped at, I struck up a conversation with a woman named Jay-Jay. She was nice and took me for a ride on her bike. It was a nice distraction."

"Was she pretty?"

Adam chuckled. "What does that matter?"

"I don't know. What does that guy have to do with it?"

"Well, we came back into the festival and started dancing. I drank some more and everything just sort of hit me at once. You were gone getting you-know-what by a bunch of guys, and I was stuck there. Before I knew it, I was head down in one of the portas puking my guts out. Jay-Jay followed me over to see if I was okay and that's where we ran into Carl. I guess he and Jay-Jay have some sort of thing."

"What kind of thing?"

"Don't ask me. I don't get any of it. He said she was his and started ordering her around. She just obeyed without question. She ended up bent over one of the toilets.
